    Michael Watson(Prime) Vs Joe Calzaghe(Prime)

Probably one for the Brits this?

How do you think this fight would've panned out? I'd have love to have seen this fight.

People do underrate Calzaghe but underrate Watson a lot more in my opinion. Watson, technically, was outstanding. A better 'boxer' than Joe by far.

I reckon Watson would've beaten Calzaghe.

Watson was a good fighter, but he got taken apart by McCallum. So far nobody has handled JC like that.

True, but he did beat an undefeated Nigel Benn and beat Chris Eubank twice as far as i'm concerned. The first fight was an ''Italian Job'' style robbery and that second fight was such a tragedy! He was winning that fight too until the accident.

True but Watson came into that fight ill prepared he hadn’t had a fight in over a year and had got injured in training which pushed the bout back he said he learnt more from that fight than any other. I think it would be a close one technically Watson imo is better but Calzaghe is quicker and can adapt but so can Watson. I will say a draw.

These are the kind of posts that truly convince me one way or another. The in-depth analysis, along with a signature that screams objectivity, how can anyone not take this guy's opinion to the bank on this issue?

I think it would be a close fight that could have gone either way, Watson was a very good, smart technical fighter and I'm sure he would have been able to give Calzaghe a lot of trouble, I'm just not sure if he can seize back the advantage when Calzaghe adapts by mid-fight.

Watson deserved the first fight with Eubank and his tactics against Benn were very smart.

Michael Watson was one of the most underrated boxers ever, I clearly remember the night of the tragedy and he was winning that fight, I know Mcallum took him apart but the reasons as to why that may have happened have already been discussed.
But for the tragic way his career ended there was a very good chance he would have gone on to be even better, I agree with Chunk that IMO he beat Chris Eubank, which means that Steve Collins aside he was the man at the weight at the time and im not convinced that he would not have beaten Collins resoundingly on points if not by KO as Collins' chin was awesome.

Watson was a smooth as ****!

                    hmmmmmmm.

I think this JC that throws masses of punches beats him but a younger JC who committed to his punches gets outboxed.
