The old " he's a better fighter theory"...doesnt hold water.

I agree with this. Thats why it annoys me when people say "Mayweather is better than Hatton, so the referee doesnt matter".
But I knew Mayweather was better than Hatton before the fight. Hell Tszyu was better than Hatton. But that doesnt mean that Ricky couldnt have had the night of his life and pulled off the upset. Of course Cortez snuffed out any chance of that.
But I agree totally with what you're saying.Comment

Sitting on your wins doesn't cut it and it doesn't guarantee you can't get ktfo in your next fight. He dares compare himself to Robinson and I bet some of you here are even foolish enough to accept it. He's created such a myth of invincibility that he doesn't need to fight for people to accept him as better than anyone he'll face. He's won before even siging a contract.
All he really has to do to sustain his status is to fuel the public's praise by putting on an excellent performance every couple of years and he's back on top for a couple more. Quite franlkly it's marketing ingenuity.
Mayweather is an exceptionally talented fighter, hell he is undefeated! I do think that of late he has become complacent with his boxing career and might not have the determination and drive he did a few years ago. If that IS the case then he should let someone who IS serious about taking on ALL the best fighters in the division take the torch while he goes on to wrestle or promote or whatever. Keeping his ardent fans hanging on to watch him fight less than the best and still try to convince everyone he is still the dominant champion is not worthy of someone who has been labeled pound for pound the best fighter. If you are a professional boxer then you box and if you are the best then you fight the best. Leave no questions unanswered.Comment
