how come a battle between two pure boxers showing great defense and movement has never been fight of the year??

    Fight of the Year.

Not technical matchup of the year.

People usually view it as boring, because sometimes there are no big exchanges. Sometimes no KD's, people these days want to see more knockdowns & knockouts. Can't lie I'm one of them, but it's always great to see two fighters exchange even if there isn't a KO or KD.

Well for one, nobody will tune in to rewatch it if theres no level of excitement. Could you imagine a bout with Floyd Mayweather and Corrie Spinks? Call that SLEEPER of the Year, and I don't mean that in a good way. Fight of the Year sounds like something you'd want to see more than any other fight of the year as it implies. This requires drama at the highest level that make people want to rewatch it over and over. Usually involving 2 guys beating the **** out of each other or comebacks on the brink of losing.

The same reason we see great fights with average or only good fighters. They dont have the skill level to fight the way many of the sport's best do, so they brawl and fight in exciting toe to toe matchups that rely on heart more than skill.

Vazquez and Marquez don't have the skill level?

I saw many classic displays of technique in all 3 fights.
