John Duddy-Verno Phillips Not Set, Other Options Explored

The bout between unbeaten "Irish" John Duddy and IBF junior middleweight champ Verno Phillips is not a done deal as many have reported. Duddy, an undefeated middleweight, plans to move down to 154-pounds to seek out a championship fight. [details]

    What's the hold up?

If Duddy is looking for a fight, and Pavlik just came off of a fight and is currently seeking an opponent, then why don't they decide to fight each other? They considered it once before, until Duddy got bad cuts to his eyes in a fight......Obviously the timing now seems right, or are they waiting for St.Patrick's Day Weekend to roll around to set something up in MSG.....I truly believe they should sign to fight each other now, Atlantic City isn't that far for New Yorkers to travel and we've already seen that Pavilk's fans are willing to trek out to AC, so Let's make it happen!!!!

It looks like it would be a good matchup, at least on paper!

    Pavilk vs Duddy ASAP!!!!

Yeah right as if John Duddy would have a chance in hell against Pavlik. His manager is trying to get him the easiest fight like he said for the most money. Pavlik would make Duddy look like Freddy Kruger afterwards. They need to hurry up and sign to fight Phillips, Duddy would be the IBF champion then.

Verno's way better than Duddy, but I dunno how much he's got left. It's a winnable fight for Duddy.

I agree. Phillips has been one of the more underrated fighters of the last handful of years because he has been campaigning at 154. His record doesn't speak to his ability. He is definitely vulnerable though because of his advanced age. Surely Duddy is capable of outworking Verno, as Verno is not a very big puncher and Duddy appears to be pretty tough.

I'd like to see him fight for the title in the fall. Duddy will beat Phillips, I just hope he gets back that KO power and knocks him out.

I guess Duddy and Mora will end up locking up at Jr.Middleweight

Duddy would not beat Verno. Remember he struggled with good ol Yory Boy Campas. Dont you think that Verno is much better than Yori BC?

and be a little more realistic, Verno is the better puncher .
Duddys KO-s came from beating bums, you cant compare the opposition of the two

                  John Duddy Verno Phillips

I think Duddy showed total professionalism and fantastic technique in his last fight against Howe. His defence has improved and he has already shown his granite jaw in previous fights. Phillips will do well to finish the fight!

To seek out a championship fight or a easy fight? John Duddy is nobody, end of story.
