Top Rank vs. Golden Boy: Cold War is Back On?

The cold war between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, the two biggest promotional companies in boxing, appears to be back in full force. The war began several years ago when Oscar De La Hoya left Top Rank to start Golden Boy. The two companies would barely conduct any business together until they reached a settlement last June over the promotional agreement of Manny Pacquiao (who signed with both of them) and came together for several co-promoted shows in the last twelve-months. I'm down wit Arum. He's done a good job bustin out quality fights pretty consistently. GBP is alright fight-wise, but their monopoly/HBO bull**** gets irritating.

That's weird a casino would turn down a big action packed fight including manny paquiao. "it doesnt make sense" that's so ****** fights bring money and attraction to the casino. Every time there is a fight at a casino the day before and the day off the casino is rocking and there's a buzz going on i can't believe they said it doesnt make sense lol. I have felt this for a little over a year now but i feel like Golden Boy will ruin boxing and eventually i will stop following boxing if Golden corrupts the sport. I cant stand oscar de la hoya! People dont understand what he really is about.

Agreed. Why don't they fight at Holloywood planet or something? That's in vegas. **** even in Texas they could fight.

Doesn't the mandalay bay have to put up money for fights? If they don't want to pay more money for a 3rd big fight, that's understandable. Arum is the biggest idiot if Golden Boy and Top Rank go into a cold war. They make much more money with each other and help the sport of Boxing.

maybe mandalay is wary because of pacquiao-diaz not selling out.

i think uncle bob made a mistake scheduling that fight the week before a 3-day 4th of july weekend.

if people had plans for this weekend already they weren't gonna go to vegas the weekend before.

Oscar isn't really an acting CEO or President. He is the face of the company. The brains ( not necessarily a boxing one) behind the operation is Richard Schaefer. He is leveraging Oscar's popularity to generate revenue for the company. As a company still growing that isn't necessarily the worse thing to have happen. However leveraging Oscar's popularity to secure dates on a major network is the starting point for monopolization of the sport itself and that is another problem altogether. I agree Golden Boy puts on the some of the most horrific undercards, known to man but you can't hate Oscar for being popular, he is as they say, who we thought he was.

I don't see what the big deal is. They have to put up big money for fights and DLH's and Hatton's fight they probably will have to put up money for it and they can't afford what Arum was asking for.

                    He's a crybaby and a sore loser.
