In a recent interview Bernard Hopkins declared himself a legend and wrongly claimed that Calzaghe is a fighter that has never fought outside of his home country. When asked about this false claim, Joe replied “He doesn’t really know his geography. He thinks I’m English.

And an equally hostile reception was when I boxed against David Starie and Robin Reid in their backyard! When has Hopkins boxed outside his own country?


The English hated Joe Calzaghe before so fighting in England was like fighting in a different country for Calzaghe before, the English only leech on to good fighters...

hahah Sir Joe you are a prize bellend. My father is welsh and i know for a fact the hate that the Welsh have for the English is 10 million times stronger than the english have for the Welsh. English people see it as a rivalry. you welsh seem to actually hate. Thats pretty sad IMO.

you americans dont seem to understand is that british people are the most passionate fans in the world in whatever sport. for people who dont know the uk = england, scotland, wales and northern ireland which are 4 different countries. so when england play scotland at football the rivalry is shocking. the fans will fight, riot and hate each other. so when a welsh fighter like calzaghe is fighting in ENGLAND against an english fighter, it is like fighting abroard. at least american fans dont spit and hurl abuse. therefore your point is right to a degree.
