Torres vs. Holt II: The Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - Kendall Holt will walk into the ring wanting to believe that in a different locale, on a different day, the WBO Jr. Welterweight belt would be around his waist…or at least carried to the ring by one of his boys. He’ll place faith in ten rounds and do everything he can to forget the eleventh.

Ricardo Torres will know that he can hurt Holt, that even behind in the scoring his power can bail him out. He’ll know that only four men have heard the final bell after a night with him and of those four, the only one who stopped him from hearing “Winner…” accompanied by his name after a fight is Welterweight star Miguel Cotto.

That doesn’t change the ruckus that emanated from Torres’ native Colombia after their first meeting last September. Building a lead through the first two-thirds of the bout, Torres began to crack through particularly in the tenth. After the 27-year old Holt (23-2, 12 KO) of Paterson, New Jersey all but ran, and it was pretty close to that, from a bull rushing 28-year old Torres (32-1, 28 KO) in round eleven for a full two minutes, a left hook along the ropes finally stopped the sprint. Holt teetered between the top two ring ropes, almost falling out of the ring. [details]

I agree with your pick Cliff. The odds on Torres are extremely generous too. How often can you get 2-1 on a guy who just KO'd the same opponent?

Holts going to win because this time he doesn't have to worry about fans throwing beer bottles into the arena and at his head and a ****ty ref. All that crap happened in the first fight and Holt was leading on points still.

Good article. I didn't see much difference in power and speed in both fighters in their first encounter. Torres was believed to have a power advantage though. I can still remember the mess on the canvas which many would agree was almost defiled. Furthermore, though Holt was wobbling, the bout didn't need to be stopped at that moment.

My bet is on Holt, highly likely by unanimous decision.

You're wrong more then that, and this is a dumb pick you chose because the fact that Holt want to a country and was winning on points but its kind of a huge distraction when people are throwing beer and other at your head. He was even hit with a beer can on the side of his head!!!

Holt by decision, and crold wrong!!! Andy****Hot loses money because he believes in crold!!!

I think Holt's power is slightly better than a C+, he doesn't score that many knockouts because he stays on his bicycle most of the time. When he stops and fires, like he did when he dropped Torres, he can crack pretty decent.

I'd say this is an even fight, but Torres' durability and power make him the favorite in my eye. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Holt turns the tables though.

Nah, I checked...about 20% give or take. I saw the fight with Torres and the distractions were real. So was the hook that unwound Holt. We shall see manana

This fight is 50/50 though, so your right it is a pick-em fight. So, I definitely can't rub it in ya if torres loses like I think he may. I can't blame Torres for his fans, it's not his fault he has trashy fans because he also had to deal with things being chucked in the ring but for the most part I think his fans were chucking at Holt. But I know that both Torres and holt slipped on the liquids that were in the arena.
