Cotto has killer instinct, he's just more methodical in his approach.

When he hurts an opponent, he doesn't go all out for a knockout immediately, he'll wait for his openings because he knows if he hurt his opponent once, he can hurt him again.

Margarito just goes all out for the knockout once he gets his opponent hurt.

Cotto's a good finisher too, he just ain't as ruthless about it as Tony is. And who gives a **** about Tony stoppin Golden Johnson? This kinda **** is what sparks the attackin threads against him.
