Should Cotto have turned down the Mayweather offer back at 140?

Miguel Cotto turned down a Mayweather offer at 140 lbs.

Was this a mistake by Cotto? Or did he do the right thing?

Yes. Miguel should have taken the fight.

It is not Miguel's fault. He listens to Bob Arum.

That "whoever my company wants me to fight" mentality is bad for Miguel.

He did the right thing. He did not have the same energy and strength that he has now, and the chin was rather Chinese.

    At 147 it's a toss up though.

dont know, he might have lost, but that wouldnt have necessarily been a bad thing for his popularity, everyones lost to mayweather, i dont think its really dented ODLH's popularity, nor hattons

To me, that fight was ALL upside for Cotto.

If he won, he beat "the great Mayweather". Incredible.

If he lost, so what? Everybody else lost and STILL got huge fights: DLH, Hatton, Zab, etc. Even baldomir, gatti and Corley got big title shots post-Mayweather.

You mean when Cotto was too green and didn't have any fights under his name?

Or when he got some fights under his name and Mayweather didn't want to fight him @ 140?

Um, the fight offer was post-Gatti. Was Cotto still green? He left 140 shortly thereafter.

Mayweather opponents got paid well. Gatti made $4+ million, and Zab was slated to make $3 million until he ****ed up. All Floyd's opponents made career highs. Migs would have been fine.

Miguel is only making $5 million nowadays. It's not like he is a 10-15 mil guy.
