I have answered this question before. And I will give my response ONE last time.
I worked for a big beverage company that sponsors a lot of events (figure it out). I am now a consultant to the CPG industry. I do promotions and events. (Not a "promoter" in the boxing sense).
So, I monitor fight economics more closely than most. I track the financial performance and viewership because it enables you to calculate the ROI of your promotional spend. There.
Now, am I a boxing fan? Most assuredly. I have watched boxing my whole life and I spar. I go to fights. My clients sponsor NASCAR events, but I don't hang in stock car chat rooms. That component is purely business for me.
So, maybe my Venn diagram has the boxing circle overlapping with the business circle more than most others. So what? Are you one of those guys who expects all fans to be monolithic?
Clearly, the powers that be acknowledge that there is some segment of the population that cares about the nums because HBO and the online sites (including this one) publicizes the PPV revenues. Am I right?
Why is it that you only seem to think in terms of PPV sales or how much a fight will make? You sound like either a businessman, Floyd Mayweather or a bore.
Wouldn't you just rather see the best fights made instead of discussing endless PPV stats and utterly useless similar facts. Who really gives a **** who is the draw or how much some fighter made with numbers on a PPV!
Would you rather sit discussing why Mayweather won't fight Cotto due to PPV numbers or would you just rather see the damn fight? Seriously man, Mayweather is the most boring businessman boxer ever. Only serious Mayweather fans go along with all his "If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense" BS. I mean, c'mon, do you really buy into all that crap just because you like Mayeather? As a fan of his wouldn't you rather see him fight everyone out there? All everyone seems to hear from Mayweather fans is useless stats about PPV's and other utterly pointless crap which no boxing fan should really give the slightest ****e about.
Don't you just want to see them fight?
You're right, why don't we all just make posters saying "we want Cotto - Mayweather" and protest in front of HBO Headquaters and Floyd's house.
