Would it make a difference if Manny was undefeated?
I think most of Mayweather's fans just hold him high in that regard being they can always praise his undefeated record regardless of the slander they'll receive. I personally think Floyd is an incredible talent, but hasn't proven himself against an elite fighter in their prime (I don't count Hatton). If Floyd is the draw, fighting a Cotto or Margarito wouldn't draw more than him fighting Baldomir or Judah??
If Floyd remains retired, he'll no doubt be remembered as one of the ATG fighters. But like Rocky Marciano, he retired undefeated...but isn't regarded as high as guys like Ali, Louis (though he beat him waaay after his prime), or even Holyfield simply because Rocky took safer fights against older fighters.
If that's what Floyd chooses, so be it. But the general public and most of the media will regard Manny as a guy who fought the very best there was to offer...and still is. That's the difference.

Let me try to give a Rational and Logical analogy
If you climb the highest Mountain in the world. And you are standing on top of that Mountain. Can you go any higher than that...?
What Number comes before 1?
What else can he do that will rise his status even higher than what it is now...????
It's obvious people will never rate him as the best fighter ever
and he is already the greatest fighter of his generation...
What else can he do...If he cant become the greatest fighter ever..??
He is already the P4P BEST since 2005
He is already the undisputed Lineal Champion
He is already recognized around the world the best boxer alive
He is already accomplish what no other fighter in history has never done
The only thing he has left to accomplish is to be call the The Greatest of All Time
If he cant accomplish the status of Greatest Fighter Ever Why continue to fight...
It is obvious people will never give him that status so why continue fighting for something he already has... And that is the recognition as the best boxer alive and P4P best....

Boxing of course is a money driven sport and has always been, but if you're a champion...you fight the very best that's out there. I have no doubt that Floyd fighting Cotto or Margarito would blow through the roof in a split second. So financially, the fights are there to be made. The question is whether or not Floyd would be willing to take them? I'd love to see Floyd fight a Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, etc just to see how good he is at this level more than just wanting him to lose (which is the general consensus).
Like I've stated before, Manny is just built differently. He'll take the money, but will also take the risk and will always puts on a hell of a show, because at the end of the day...that's what we all pay to see.
Floyd may be the better fighter, but Manny is your quintessential "People's Champ", something Floyd had a tough time being.
