Why Has Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero Disappeared?

By Steve Kim - On February 29th IBF featherweight champion Robert Guerrero impressively halted Jason Litzau in Lemoore, California in eight rounds. With the win, the young man who hails from nearby Gilroy had seemingly found his groove in the ring after some earlier inconsistencies, and 'The Ghost', as he is called, was coming into his own as one of the sport’s brightest young champions.

After losing the IBF title to Orlando Salido (who later flunked his post-fight urinalysis and was thus stripped of the title) in November of 2006, Guerrero - under the guidance of his father in the corner - had now put together three solid knockout victories, and along the way had re-captured the IBF crown he originally won against Erik Aiken in September of 2006. He had even played to a standing room only crowd at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in his dismantling of Litzau.

It seemed as though they had all the momentum in the world.

So why are we into July and there are no sightings of 'The Ghost'?

"Ask Shelly," said the normally talkative promoter, Dan Goossen, who developed Guerrero from a fledgling prospect into a world champion. 'Shelly' would be one Shelly Finkel, who co-manages Guerrero alongside Bob Santos. [details]

I think the real reason is that Guerro wants to be with his ill wife. Though i think she already recovered from what i recall.

But its a shame that he just drops his belt and goes up to 130 only to start again. Whoever is too blame its a ****** career move. Guerro should be fighting often. He was just starting to look real sharp and he was finally getting attention then he stops it all whoever is to blame should be put to blame cause the 130 divison still has some tough competition. 130 would have been wide open for Guerro.

I didn't know Ortiz filed bankrupcy wtf? nor that he went with gbp.

it all has to do with Finkel and the influence he has over the fighters he manages

whoever is in bed with him at the moment gets fighters sent their way

        it's Golden Boy now

as for Vic he filed so he can get out of his contract with TR. He ditched Roberto Garcia in favor of his brother, he ditched his manager Cameron Dunkin in favor of Finkel. The **** up was when he included TR in the lawsuit. NOW TR does not want to dissolve their investment in Ortiz (or Goossen with Ghost) so now they are in a battle.

Juarez got a signing bonus with them (the only ones to offer him one)

and in a funny way Chico got money from the chance he was going to sign with them. Thats a cool story but let me tell you one horror story

their best prospect, Abner Mares, had an apendectemy a few years ago which sidelined him. During that time he couldn't fight, couldn't train, couldn't spar for anyone thus not making any money. So he gets the bill for his hospital stay and GBP wouldn't cover it. Yeah he should have had insurance for himself but since he wasnt making money and wasnt fighting he didnt get it. So he had to max out everything he could to pay it off. Nice when your best prospect has to pay his own medical bills so he can fight for your company isn't it?

I have a few of these with some of the local guys from LA tied to GBP

Sucks he moved to 130 right when everybody else moved out. Opportunity for him to dominate the division tho. He's probably bidin his time waitin for the right fight to debut at the new weight. Once he does, he should have a belt within a couple of fights.
