Where did you get this Kswizzy? Very interesting read and I've often wondered about what would happen in a rematch. I strongly feel that George would have gone the distance had there been a second fight.

I got this from another boxing site(I don't know if i'm allowed mentioning that site here) when I searched foreman-ali rematch in google cuz I also always wondered why they didn't fight again.

        the 1st one?

i seriously don't even know if ali was clowing around when he looked like he was out on his feet.

frazier didn't even know that's why he didn't pursue too aggressively. i think he got hurt but i don't know if he was out of it. when he got knocked down in the end he wasn't hurt aside from his pride.

ali had a chin. all the guys he fought and never got koed. a young berbick and holmes couldn't even knock him out when he was old and past prime.

......and they were hitting him with everything.

loosing to ali ruined foreman psychologically. he realised that some poeple could take his punches and that he wasnt invincible.

after the ali fight foremans trainers tried to change him into a normal boxer. that ruined hi technically; he didnt take it in and it meant he was out of practice with his original style. he lost to jimmy young because of this and would have lost to ali-though he may have made the distance.

if foreman had beaten young a rematch would have been highly likely instead he retired.
ali certainly did not duck foreman,in fact it may have been the other way around!

** My dearest Hemi, that is completely one sided nonsense.

Foreman was on the cover of SI, and in every fight calling out Ali. Lest you forget, he was tracking Ali title contenders and disposing of them much easier than Ali.

Pecheco admits that the Ali team didn't want a rematch with George since Ali obviously suffered severe organic damage from the fight. George can be seen in interviews and on tape after the Zaire fight as looking forward to the rematch, yet Ali is completely noncommital, talking of retirement.

Yet a month later he admits a black "oilman" offers he and George 5 mil for the rematch in Indonesia. See the Ali Playboy interview for verification.

It don't make any difference WHAT you think, the Ali team is on record as not wanting the fight, Ali himself is noncommital, yet George is on every page, every media frame calling for the rematch.

Personally, ignoring the statements of Ali's team and Ali himself, me thinks Ali had a deep religious hatred of George and Joe back then due to his NOI allegiances and wanted to string George along forever.

No accident that he was exposed against Wepner, Evangelista, Lyle, and Young as well as whupped by little amateur Neon and had his brains scrambled by Shavers right at the time George retired. Pecheco for all his faults, was on his mark about Ali. George took most everything out of him and he was never the same fighter again.

Great warrior and all time great, yes, but most don't give icon status to Tex Cobb for absorbing punches endlessly as Ali was doing in this phase.

Thus the reason why Louis is generally ranked above him. Louis settled any few controversies with his ACE, not controversial decisions.

Foreman interview after the Dino Dennis fight in 1976. About half a year later he lost a decision to Jimmy Young and retired.

wow, thats interesting at the end when they mentioned how they would have a show dedicated to scoring the controversial ali-norton fight and have forman, frazier, patterson score the fight while re-watching the replay. I would love to see how they scored that.

The point i was making was that had foreman won against young, ali would have been his next opponent. the fans wanted it, the promoters wanted it!

your sources are good though i am surprised that ali didnt want to fight foreman yet stayed to fight berbick and holmes when he was nothing more than a punching bag!

just to clear this up, i said nothing there out of bias toward ali. foreman is actually one of my favourite boxers.

Duran saying no mas is not really a mystery.
He never said no mas, in reality, but he was annoyed, frustrated and was getting embarassed in the ring.
His direct quote to the ref was; " I am not boxing with this clown"
