Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones Needs All of the Help It Can Get

By Jake Donovan - As has become par for the course in recent times, insert Golden Boy Promotions' name, and everyone screams conspiracy. The latest scandal has the Left Coast-based company reportedly trying to worm its way into the promotion end for a potential pay-per-view showdown between pound for pound greats of yesterday (Roy Jones Jr.) and today (Joe Calzaghe).

Calzaghe, considered to be no worse than among the world's two best active fighters in the world, recently became the biggest free agent in the sport, having bolted from long time promoter Frank Warren, under whom he's served his entire professional career. The news came shortly before reports indicated that a long-awaited showdown with Jones was closer than ever to becoming a reality.

Some reports have September 20 listed as the target date, while others have suggested the bout will serve as the main attraction for November, one of the premium months of the sport and television in general, with the month's programming referred to as "sweeps" season. [details]

i never actually thought about the consequences of the two of them going it alone,

really they need someone if they are going to have a decent undercard,

maybe golden boy wouldnt be such a bad partner for this fight

        JAKE ON DA SOAP BOX

For the last freakin' time, people: Manny Pacquiao was ALREADY a four-division champion prior to last weekend's win over David Diaz.

Too bad IBHOF ONLY RECOGNIZE THE FOUR MAJOR GOVERNING BODIES - WBC,WBO,WBA,IBF.

If Manny won the Marquez fight in the featherweight he would already be classified as a 5 division champ by IBHOF. Unfortunately the judge who scored the bout calculated the points incorrectly.

Should he win the Hatton fight, and Hatton is victorious over Malignani he would be a 5 division champ.... 6 if we consider the lineal.

My dream fight for him is to fight Cotto. They have almost the same height and reach and it would be a very good fight and should he win he'll be a 6 division champ...7 if we consider lineal(if cotto will be considered a lineal champ by that time). From Flyweight to Welterweight. Nobody has ever done that.

I think Manny should stick around the lighweight division & try to beat the best to gain recoginition as the linear lightweight champion before going on to face Hatton. He would then be the 1st person ever to be linear champion at 4 different weights & could then attempt to gain an unprecedented 5th linear world title at lightwelterweight by facing the Hitman

Enzo Maccarinelli wont split from Warren and neither will any of the other fighters in his stable.

                This is an awkward situation.

Good read. RJ-Joe C is too big a fight to happen without any bull**** holdin it up. And so many reports having ignored Pac's FW reign cuz it didn't carry an alphabet belt is dumb as ****.
