Well? What would you think? Had Richard Steele let the dazed Meldrick Taylor continue fighting with 2 minutes left Taylor could have been killed or badly hurt perhaps. Would it still have been a bad stoppage?
If the Taylor-Chavez stoppage happened at 1:00 into round 12

He's asking if instead of 2 seconds and Steele had stopped it with 2 minutes remaining would it still be a controversial stoppage.
And yes it still would have been a bad stoppage because Taylor only had to avoid Chavez for that round to walk away the winner.Comment

As Krazy pointed out, I am saying if there were 2 minutes left instead of two seconds.Comment

Chavez probably stops Mel. Had it been 2 minutes left in the round, the ref stays close to the fighters after the knockdown, and once Chavez lands a shot... if Mel can't respond, you stop the fight. All this he could've been killed stuff is totally blown out or proportion. Nobody knows the possibilities of a few more shots. That can be said about any fighters who ever landed a punch on a hurt fighter.Comment

Obviously if there are two minutes left it is a different situation than if there are two seconds left. The referee should always keep that in mind before passing judgement.Comment

So round 12 stoppages are always bad because they only have to survive that round?
What about 11, because they only have one round to survive after that?
I don't have a problem with the stoppage, because you can't dictate a fair brightline at any point in the match othen than the final bell.Comment

It is a bad stoppage because not only did Mel get up, Steele doesn't need to say anything to Mel except step forward. Why ask a fighter anything other than that? See if he can walk steady first. I rooted for chavez because I never liked Mel. Buyt, you don't take away man's chance to survive a fight. Not after he gets up, and you don't get what you call a proper response. Steele never returned to big time ppv fights after that. Nobody trusted him.Comment

I don't think he said anything about walking forward.Comment
