Damn. That's sad stuff.
Stories like this make you understand why refs are more cautious nowadays.Comment

I heard these two really didn't like each other before the fight, like as in it wasn't just a build up for the fight but that probably makes it worse because I'm sure not only is this effecting the friends and family of Msophi but also Gwayana. No one wants to be the one to kill someone in that ring no matter how much they disliked each other, its something that if I was a boxer it would haunt me for the rest of my life personally. Reminds me of Ray Mancini fight in some ways except I don't think he had any beef with Deuk Koo Kim.Comment

All that cushioning on boxing gloves weakens the impact of a punch, so the fighter is able to get hit more, but at the same time the brain is absorbing all that accumulative damage. It's basically like tenderizing a steak with a mallet.
With smaller gloves, you get hit hard, you'll get laid out.
Plus defense helps too.Comment

Those deaths normally happen in the smaller weight classes becuase those guys are killing themselves to make weight. We rarely hear about a fighter dying from the higer weight divisions because they are not struggling to get down as much. If anything needs to be changes then its taking away those smaller divisions. Its getting ridicilous.Comment
