Just got done watching Joe Louis/HBO special

What a special special fighter. Great job by HBO showing Joes life as a fighter. This crap made me cry like a little baby.

Honestly I was disappointed by it. There wasn't anything new that I hadn't seen on other documentaries before. I wanted to see and hear some rare stories, some insight into new ground that hadn't been covered on Louis.

The HBO documentary "Bright Lights and Dark Shadows" on Ray Robinson was better, as was "The Mysterious Life of a Champion" on Sonny Liston.

    I highly recommend those.

Saw it the first day it was shown on hbo, and it made up for Wlads lackluster performance against Sultan.

I liked that documentary very much. Since i havent been on boxing for a long time, i didnt knew anything about the life of jou louis. i was amazed on how hard life was for him, i have a lot of respect for.
the part when he was old and on the ringside wwatching a fight was kinda shocking, he looked very lonely and sad, it sucks that someone as great had his final part of his life like that.

I was disappointed too. More boxing footage would have been nice. It was more of a social commentary.

Rocky Marciano's resume looks like crap with Joe Louis's name on it, because if you watch footage of Louis in that fight he just looks old and shot. I'm not dissing Rocky because he is a tough sob too but who else thinks that fight should have never happened and was extremely sad to see Louis ko'd like that.

Rocky didn't want to do it either, but people wanted to see it and Joe needed the money. It wasn't nearly as bad as Holmes-Ali.

Rocky for one didn't want to take the fight he knew Louis was shot and was a huge Louis fan himself and it is also said that Louis asked for Rocky to take the fight as it would help him out financially.
