It was a judgment call of sorts. Marquez had gotten a lot of work done at 126 before Pacquiao arrived by unifying the belts. The first Pacquiao-Marquez was a clean draw and Pacquiao didn't stick around long enough at the division. The draw verdict showed that Marquez's two belts were no less a credential than Pacquiao's Ring Belt.

It really doesn't matter, Pacquiao himself said he was a 4 division champion. It doesn't detract from him one bit.

I thought Barrera and Hamed fought for the vacant Ring belt?

No, Barrera and Morales did and who cares about Ring? The lineage was there when Ring backed into it. Manny was the rightful Featherweight champion and it does detract slightly when you figure that he's the only fighter in history to win the Flyweight and Featherweight titles. Marquez 'unifying' against the awesome that was Medina and Gainer just doesn't quite stack with Manny beating Barrera and the twenty years behind that win stretching to the death of Sanchez and reign of Pedroza.

        Otherwise, good piece.

Oh, and as a P.S., let it not be forgotten that Pacquiao was billed as 'People's" champ at 26 after Barrera or whatever they called it to acknowledge his lineage claim. Boxing politics suck.

              Thanks.

I see where I misunderstood the lineage, it was Barrera's first fight at 126 when he fought Hamed and then two fights later Barrera beat Morales.

It really is confusing the whole situation, especially when it comes down to technicalities and unofficial titles. I can see why the layman is turned off by the ABC politics.

So what would you suggest? Put Pacman on ice until all of his so called "credible" opponents are free?
