    Pacman vs Valero Nov 8

    By NICK GIONGCO

LAS VEGAS — Edwin Valero will be next for Manny Pacquiao, his promoter announced yesterday.

Top Rank head Bob Arum said on Saturday that Nov. 8 has been penciled for the next fight of Pacquiao, and that Valero, the unbeaten Venezuelan knockout king, has been tapped to battle the newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight king.

"He will fight on Nov. 8 either here or in Texas, but hopefully it will be here," said Arum after the post-fight press conference of the Pacquiao-Diaz.

"The opponent had a medical problem but he’s been cleared at least in one state and hopefully it’s going to be cleared up here, too. I have been talking with my friend (Akihiko) Honda and he’s game for the fight and I think people will love it because he’s a huge knockout guy."

Honda, who heads Teiken Promotions, which has offices in America and the biggest boxing outfit in Japan, holds the promotional ties on Valero.

Valero has a 24-0 record with all wins coming by way of knockout, including 19 in the first round.

Valero is the current World Boxing Association (WBA) super-featherweight (130 lbs) ruler and is aching to test Pacquiao’s mettle in another battle of lefties.

Arum said Valero, like Pacquiao, is also having problems getting down to 130 lbs.

"That’s (Valero) the fight we are making and if Manny is successful at that, we will look if (Ricky) Hatton is available," added Arum.

Valero, who now trains under American Kenny Adams here, is presently in his native Venezuela but is scheduled to go back to the gym in mid July, according to Honda, who staged two Mike Tyson fights in Tokyo in the 1990s.

Two weeks ago in Tokyo, Valero kept his WBA crown for the fourth time with a seventh-round TKO of Takehiro Shimada.

Since dethroning Vicente Mosquera of Panama, Valero has also repulsed Mexican Michael Lozada in less than a round, Nobuhito Honmo in eight and another Mexican, Zaid Zavaleta in three.

Valero was only granted a license to fight in the state of Texas last March and remains banned elsewhere in the US although he has passed medical exams in France, Japan, Argentina and Panama, where he has seen action.

The US ban on Valero was initiated by New York some years ago after it was discovered that Valero sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident in his native Venezuela.

No not Valero. When Pac beats him, Manny will not get credit for the win. Haters would say Pac is the bigger fighter and Valero is just overhype who hasn't fought nobodies.

I'd rather see him face Nate C., Jose C., and even Khan.

Good news! Eventho Valero hits like a truck, Manny should be able to KO him, about Hatton, I don't think he can handle that weight and wrestle Hatton around, bad fight for him IMO.

He should go straight to Hatton next year or fight Nate if he gets thru Guzman..

Velero isnt a name attall and the last thing he needs is the risk of a bad ass puncher like that when his stock is so high at the moment

Manny will get all the credit years after cause Valero will fight more elite fighters later on and is likely to defeat many of them.

So you would rather him NOT fight anyone than defend against a KO sensation like Valero? Waiting for the winners of those fights means next year.

It look like Pac won't be unifying...not now, not never.

He going to fight Valero and then next year, it's Hatton.

He fighting an undefeated KO artist and then the man at 140.....unifying is not on his mind, nor should it be...what the purpose, he's already a first-ballot in the hall of fame. He's made history by moving up in 6 division and capturing titles (harder than unifying).
