Write Joe Cortez and tell him to retire

    joe@fairbutfirm.com

This dude needs to ****ing go. I already wrote. Not that it'll do any good, but if we all let him know what a POS ref he is, maybe it'll help him make the decision to give it up...

DQing w/o warning or point deduction??? Leaving a fighter bloodied and disfigured without Dr.'s attention while he conferred because he was too incompetant to make his own call? Faking stopping the fight in favor of Soto, but then pulling back and changing his mind???? He needs to go.

Cortez has been a disgrace to boxing for a while now.

He screwed Hatton (not that it would have made a difference, but still) and he attempted to screw Calzaghe.

Then he screwed a fighter out of a win he had already achieved.

He has to go, he is too old and incompetent.

It's fair enough to say he has become one of the worst refs in the world.

I haven't seen the fight but from what I've read here so far he royally screwed Soto, is there a way the result of the fight can be reversed by legal means?

I'm sure Soto's people will file a protest, and the commission could rule it to be a no contest. If they let this stand I'll have lost a lot of respect for the NSAC. I already have no respect left for Cortez.

Excellent. I hope others do the same. Maybe it'll come to nothing, but hopefully it'll open his eys to the horrible decisions he made last night.

Good idea. I'm still very angry about this.

Soto came up from poverty in Mexico, and after working hard for years, was finally about to have a chance to make some decent money. Soto is a an exciting, aggressive fighter who always gives fans an entertaining fight. Just as he was about to win a world title with an excellent, dominant performance, stopping a fighter who had never been knocked down before, Cortez took it away.

Cortez should not be permitted to referee any more fights.
