Jeff Lacy or Mikkel Kessler?
Calzaghe's defining fight?

You could make a case for both.
Kessler was the much better fighter and so I regard that win as Calzaghe's best.
However Lacy was hyped up so much and regarded as the next big thing that when Calzaghe made him look like a fool more people took notice.
But still, the Kessler fight for me.Comment

Mikkel Kessler is his defining fight to me because at the time he was an undefeated prime fighter who possed technical skills that consisted of a good jab with a devastating right hand and fluid combinations. The fight was back and forth action where when one fighter gained the momentum the other took over with a swift adjustment.Lacy is the definition of a one dimensional fighter who bull rushes forward with his hands down hoping to land a wild wide hook and knock his opponent out.He has no jab or any footwork to note and was behind on the scorecards for most of his fights before the Knock outs.Lacy to Calzaghe was like Mayweather to Gatti.Comment

Depends whether you mean defining him as undebiably defining him as the SMW #1 which would be Kessler.
Or in terms of defining in terms of convincing some doubters, and defining his name, Lacy.
The first is more important, but I think a lot will vote for the latter as many are more name and perception focused.Comment

i said lacy because to me it brought joe out of obscurity and into the lime light over in the usa. it "defined" him to many americans, who previously had not heard of him. i had my buddys over who are casual fans, and they are all like "whoa, lacy is huge, he's gonna ****ing rip this skinny white boy apart". i laughed to myself all fight long! needless to say, they were all shocked, and became believers after that. the kessler win was a better win for sure, but from my stand point the lacy fight showed joes abitlty to those who previously doubted, or did not know.Comment
