  • John Duddy Eyes Verno Phillips, Moving to 154-Pounds?

Undefeated John Duddy (25-0, 17KOs) may be heading back to his roots. The fighting Irishman, who won a decision over Charles Howe on Saturday night in Boston, may be dropping down in weight to junior middleweight and targeting a September clash with IBF champion Verno Phillips (42-10, 21KOs). Verno Phillips might be a beatable opponent for Duddy, Kelly Pavlik would definitely not be.

I give Duddy a good shot at beating the 38yr old Phillips. I give him an even better chance if it's held in Ireland

More high antics from the world of politico boxing. So I guess Joel Julio, James Kirkland or a unification with Mora wouldn't be good enough, even though they are the top contenders at the weight. Duddy saw what happened to Andy Lee and to James Moore and he wants no part of real competition. I wouldn't be surprised if Verno schooled him.

Damn, you are harsh. I'll bet YOU would want to get your ass kicked by Kelly Pavlick for "real competition", loser.

I hope he tries it and Verno whomps him.

The Duddy who fought Eastman was good, not a scratch on him. The one who fought Smichet would get knocked out against anyone good. If he continues like he apparently looked last night, AND gets his KO power back, maybe he'll make a good run at light middle. But I can't see him ever beating Pavlik, and I'm as big a Duddy fan as any!

What I couldn't believe is 1) he just now started weight training, and 2) just now started eating like an athlete needs to advance in sports.

Hello? What the heck was wrong with him not to do these things from jump street!

                    LMAO

Verno is a good boxer, I don't think Duddy can beat him.
I'm glad he is out of the middleweight division though, Duddy has absolutely no business what so ever stepping into the ring with Pavlik.
