Those people are delusional. Roy back in the day was a tornado, Roy now is a popcorn fart.

People have too much staked in the myth surrounding Roy.

I bet it will feel very good to Joe when he beats him.
sure, Calzaghe beating RJJ will be a good personal victory for Calzaghe but it will be completely and utterly meaningless for the boxing community at large.

I'm not arguing with any of that, just predicting that this fight gets great numbers. Better numbers than a fight with the much lesser known Pavlik would bring in.

Oh yeah, it'll get numbers. Roy could sell a fight against me and it'd do well.

It's a good event, like De La Hoya/Mayweather was. Hopefully it will be a more entertaining fight.

yeah i agree, as far as money, the rjj-calz fight will do bigger numbers here. but if joe fought in wales it would not matter who the opponent is, he still fills the seats regardless. so why not fight pavlik, dawson, or tarver over there?

That's beside the point, Calzaghe is doing it for the money. There is little to no recognition in it.

Because of the money, again he would fill seats in Cardiff but he would get far more money PPV wise than with Pavlik.

Hardly the same situation. Calzaghe got caught by a perfect right hand while he was off balance and got straight back up. Flash knockdown.

Pavlik got hit on the temple, his legs turned to jelly and he was hurt bad. Almost KOed. And Taylor hasnt KOed anyone significant in his career.

Pavlik was also rocked by a few journeyman.

The only time Ive seen Joe well and truly buzzed was against Byron Mitchell where he knocked Mitchell out 30 seconds after hitting the canvas.

There has never been a major PPV from Europe. That's why despite all of Roy's big talk of fighting there, they will end up in Las Vegas. And a PPV in the US with Calzaghe vs Dawson or Tarver is going to tank big time.
