In the "modern era" how many fights should constitute a "full career"?

That is a great point. When did your career "really start"? Mayweather, Lacy and Vargas had career that started at their 15th fight. Some guys don't face real comp until fight #25/30.

50+ is an aberration if you are in big fights. It is nearly impossible to fight four times a year in your prime if you are in big fights.... even 3 fights in a year is hard.

You are right but that is just my opinion. I am a fan of active boxers and I wish this was an era in which boxers had 80+ fight careers. My favorite boxers are throwbacks to an older time. I feel that the more active a boxer the more polished the skills.

A career can't just have a number, its the quality.
It really depends on when you stepped it up in your competiton level. A fighter like JCC jr. will have well more than 50 fights because he has not stepped it up and can frequent easy fights.

Fighters who step up there competition level early have a harder time putting up those big numbers (inflated for many fighters).

Guys like PBF/Vargas/RJJ/Tito who stepped up there competiton level early 18th - 22nd fight in there careers.

You have other guys who start facing true test at 38-40 fights into there career. They have a much easier and better chance of making over 50th.

I think what's more important is who they fight. At least at the prize fighter level.

I think 50 might be a fair number. Or at least 40-50 should be the cut off.

Wait...actually, age has to play factor too.

Ultimately it depends on the fighter.

In my opinion, i'd say at least 1 world title, over 30 fights and retire under the age of 40 would constitute a full career.

40-50 has become the established range. Those with little-to-no amateur background (such as Mexican fighters) often tend to be above this number.
