Pacquiao vs. Diaz: The Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - From here on out, World Jr. Lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao (46-3-2, 35 KO) is playing for the icing. Only 29 years old, win or lose, he’s at the point in his career where all of the accolades a fighter can dream about are already in hand. National God by way of the Philippines: check. World champion in three weight classes (112, 126, 130): check, with another title to boot at 122. Tons of money: check and with more checks to come. Career defining rivalries: check and chin checked were some of the best Mexican Featherweights ever assembled. [details]

I don't got a copy of the Diaz-Morales fight. Anybody know if HBO is gonna show it tonight or tomorrow before the PPV? I suspect if they'll show the JMM rematch for Pac's pre-PPV showcase if they do that for each fighter this time. Or maybe they'd show the 2nd and 3rd Morales fights for Pac since he's the common opponent for these guys.

HBO won't show Diaz Morales as that was a ****ty Top Rank PPV broadcast.

Pacquiao better get to Diaz early or have a big lead on the cards because Diaz never runs on empty in his gas tank. He simply outlasted Morales who outfought him for the first 9 rounds.

Pacquiao also held a title belt at 122, the IBF belt, but at the time Paulie Ayala was the recognized champ.

No, Ayala was Ring's champ in one of the worst decisions they've made since restarting policy. Ayala was comiong off three bad decisions in a row (Diazno, Tapia II and Adams I) and that got him to 1 over guys who had been in the division longer than Ayala's single fight. There really wasn't a clear champ anywhere when Pac was at 22.
