I didn't even bother watching this crap though. They were in their primes at Featherweight and yet were fighting at Jr MW! I knew it was going to be a farce. Fenech has probably settled his mind from this though as that first draw robbery destroyed him. He lost every ounce of his fighting spirit because of that s I guess I'm kind of glad he 'won'.
He lost every ounce of his fighting spirit when Azumah beat it out of him in the rematch.

Fenech had all the advantages in the rematch and Nelson was thought to be old. No one listened to his claims of malaria prior to the first match and his promise that he would stop Fenech next time. I mean, he was the champion yet went to Australia for the rematch. And, despite knocking Fenech down in rounds one, two, and putting a hurtin' on him throughout, he was behind on the cards - that would've been a robbery worse than the first.

Agreed. Though he was still done after the first fight. He didn't engage like the first fight. He 'boxed' better but since when has Fenech won fights with his boxing? Nelson would have won but it may have been much closer. As for the claims of Malaria, no one can fight twelve hard rounds and still be punching at the end after taking such a beating having just had Malaria. If you know anything about Malaria you would know it is quite simply impossible for any athlete to compete at even close to such a high standard if he had just come off his sickbed with Malaria. That is such a bull**** story.

Nelson came to Aus saying he would KO Fenech because he had such success in the first two rounds of the first fight. He knew with the right training and game plan he could beat him and probably KO him. If you look at the first fight, he doesn't flag slowly, he flags after taking two massive right hands in the third round. That is what screws him up and he never recovers properly.

It is physically not possible to fight like he did just coming off Malaria. The malady is basically designed to rob you of every ounce of strength so the Malaria cells can take over. It's quite funny people give any credence to that story. If it was true he would not have lasted past four or five rounds at most.

Nonetheless, Fenech's spirit was destroyed after that first fight and then utterly broken when he got KO'd in the second. He didn't train like he did for the first fight and was probably never going to win it. Even with the scoring of the second fight, winning ten rounds to two is about as bad a robbery as you can get. Becoming the first ever fighter to win four titles if four weight divisions undefeated but then being robbed blind, not by your opponent, but by the officials would have robbed anyone of their desire.

Actually, Nelson never claimed to have malaria. He claimed to be coming off malaria - and that he had been severely weakened. Anyone whose ever had malaria knows that it takes weeks to get your full strength back. In fact, Nelson was very confident for this very reason - he believed Fenech should have been able to stop him in that state.

I also think it's hard to say that Fenech was done after the first fight because he didn't fight with similar fervor in the second. Perhaps that's because Nelson didn't let him? I mean, Fenech was on his a** in the first round.

Finally, you go overboard when you say Fenech won ten rounds to two. He took over in the fifth/sixth and dominated but it was Azumah who was in control early on. 8-4 is far more closer to the truth.

Anyway, he has enough power to do fine at the top level and as long as he reigns in his hand dropping I still think he will go far.
I do think Willie lacks power mate , not because of last night that was just another showing of it , Ive watched most of his fights , good natural ability fluid fighter and it was a good effort against St Clair in only his 10th fight , the reason he could not keep Gairy of him was lack of power on his best shots , some were crackers and Wille loaded on them and Gairy never flinched , I think as he gets up into real prime class the good guys will walk through him , hope Im wrong and would love to see Willie go all the way to a WT , he beats Dibb right now I feel .

It's certainly possible. St Clair does have a mighty strong chin though so I wouldn't really judge anyone's power off of a fight with him. Though I certainly don't disagree. He seems to have the kind of power that would stop someone when he cracks them without them seeing it. Like mayweather. That sharp quick power. I would love to see a fight between Dibb and him now. I also think at the moment that Kickett would take it. Maybe always would. Hopefully we'll get to see soon.
