Taylor's key weapon in that fight seemed to be to throw hard punches against Wright's gloves in such a manner as to make as loud a noise as possible. It seemed to work, too: Lampley was screaming about right hands that hit Winky's gloves.

The way to beat an opponent's tight guard is to make them engage. It's hard to really, consistently counter out of given how tight you have to hold and how your body is placed... so all you do is jab into their guard and throw a few to the body then step out. The key is making them come to you while you simply cruise ahead on activity while still landing a few shots here and there waiting for them to do something.

That's why Wright's D is so good... he stays in that tight shell but still controls the majority of the fight by pumping out that jab so frequently.
