  • Just finished De La Hoya's new book...

American Son, it was pretty good, kinda short. I dont read much but when something catches my interest i really enjoy it, i probably read like 2 books a year lol. But Che Guevara, A Revolutionary Life was long as hell and took me forever.

but anyway, Oscar's book was good. He talks about pretty much all his fights, and went he went through leading to them. Makes me want to rewatch all of them now knowing the story behind the scenes and what he went through before the fight. He talks a lot about peope who screwed him over, and those who always stuck by him. His business career and all the mistakes he made and how he fixed them His love life, his mother, his family. He covers pretty much everything. His main goal was to inspire people in the Hispanic community and id be lying if i said i wasnt inspired just a little bit. Good book i just wish it was a little bit longer.

Does Oscar talk about the people that he screwed over, like Shelly Finkel? Or all the people he fired without ever telling them?

mainly talks trash about some guy Hernandez, an owner of a car dealership, who took care of all Oscar's financial business early in his career.

I could only imagine how he felt during those chavez fights, having your own people hate on you like that out of ignorance and pride.

DLH took a lot of money from Finkel before he turned pro, with the understanding that Finkel would be his manager. When he turned pro, he went with Hernandez and never paid back Finkel.

How many pages is the book. Either way I'll probably buy it. Im into reading books and usually all the boxing books i have read have been interesting. Plus I like Oscar so it will be fun to read about his life and fights.

he dedicated a whole chapter tot he Chavez fights, it was called Chavez, the Man and the Myth or something like that. He says how Chavez was like a god to him on tv and it was weird seeing him. They actually sparred when he was in the ams and he did very good but Chavez dropped him he said. He talks about how Chavez wasnt really a good person, and completely went along like he was in fact a "god" the way he treated people. Oscar would be running early in the morning and see Chavez coming out of a limo with like 3 women. After the first fight everyone hated him, even booed him at a parade in LA. Then he fought differently the second fight, more aggressive, and earned more respect.
