yeah i'll be buying the fight, there really isn't any other fights worth buying this summer... i'm going to pass on the pacman fight so i'll definately be getting this one.
BTW Scott is right, put your points in the bank (you get interest)
Cool, thanks for the info. And **** you for trying to steal again, ****ER...
Everyone talked their ass off when the fight was announced. Threads after threads about this fight. I think people are burnt out talking about it for the moment until we are down to 2 weeks or so remaining. As far as media talk goes, yeah I think ESPN could help put the notice out there as well as HBO. But w/e, I think it'll do great because PRs all know Cotto and Mexicans all know Margarito. The only thing they need to sell is to the white folks.
Yeah word of mouth and a little ESPN play will do wonders for this fight but the media outlets sometimes don't get along with each other these days.
Major internet outlets could this a big boost but I doubt they will give it much play.
However, I think it will do pretty good ( at least better than some ppv shows).
I was just thinking though how poorly Vasquez-Marquez was promoted overall, all three fights, and that was a guaranteed classic and on free cable so you never know how this will play out.
It seems like boxing promoters are so behind the times with their anachronistic carnival like ways of promoting shows.
I mean they had Pac-Diaz show up in Chi-town at noon on a Tuesday downtown. Doesn't make a ton of sense.
It depends on how they market the fight. Believe it or not, most Americans get off on the retarted fake trash talk that Floyd, Mayorga, Ali, thrived at. These guys respect each other too much to do that. So we'll see. If i were HBO i'd put the countdown after a popular show or movie.

i agree with you on the trash talk part.
if they really wanted to appeal to espn they could advertise that Cotto & Margarito will dry hump in a cage for 5 rounds.
As pointed out earlier, both guys don't speak English so it would have to be really riveting for the non-Spanish speaking fans to buy it which is who they are aiming for to get that bump in the numbers
All the same, it should do ok, just not great.
I think 400K is a fair estimation...What pisses me off is Boxing gets no mainstream coverage at all...Yahoo sports which loves MMA and has the 3 stooges covering it all the time but not one mention of this weekends action with Kessler,Khan,Abraham-Miranda II,Arreola and Berto in action you think they'd have atleast some coverage but nada. It drives me nuts man...I hope before fightnight we get some major hype from ESPN and mainstream outlets for Cotto-Margo cuz it is a can't miss fight.

It's like I said earlier, if Cotto & Margarito were dry humping in a cage for 5 rounds the media & hillbillies everywhere would be all over the pay per view.
