Now I don't know the status on the DLH-Cotto thing, but I was thinking, maybe Mayweather "retires" because he knows a rematch with DLH right NOW wouldn't do as many buys, but if he retires, sits ringside as a retired fighter watching and enjoying the DLH-Cotto fight, then the winner calls him out or whatever, and he comes back to fight the winner of that fight, whether it be DLH or Cotto, wouldn't it be a much bigger fight?
If Cotto beats DLH, then a Cotto-May fight would be HUGE, and then it might make sense for Floyd, and him coming out of retirement to fight Cotto would be a big event. Even if DLH were to beat Cotto, then Mayweather doesn't have to fight Cotto anymore, and he can still rematch with DLH and it would be bigger than a rematch would be now.
This is all assuming Cotto gets past Margarito, who's no walk in the park, but if he does, then goes on and beats DLH, how can Mayweather NOT come back to fight him. It would be such a big fight if he came back and they fought after all this happened.
Anyone think Mayweather retiring is just a setup for a potential megafight in the future, and if nothing develops then he can just stay retired, so it's win-win for him?
