Sechew Powell Fails Drug Test in Latimore Aftermath

It's been reported that New York-based junior middleweight Sechew Powell failed his post-fight drug test in the aftermath of his shocking loss to Deandre Latimore last week on ESPN. Powell was on the verge of landing a major title shot when he was stopped by Latimore in the seventh-round of the fight. [details]

it must have been a very damn good joint for him to literally smoke away his title shot and decent paydays in the future

Yup. Not only did he screw this up the rest of his career will be an uphill battle attempting to convince us all (fans, matchmakers, promoters, endorsers, managers, networks) that he gives a darn.

        Chump.

          Weeds and weed killers

A sixty day suspension is nothing to a fighter who's just had a bout. He wouldn't fight again anyway for perhaps 90 days. There's no law against him training in that 60 days. Does the rule say he can't arrange any fight before 60 days are up??

I don't think that marijuana is a big mark against a fighter- these days. I recall Emanuel Augustus was caught the same way, although he took the fight on only a few days notice, and warned the promoters that he'd been at the weed. I can't recall if his fight was given against him, made an NC or if he was just suspended.

WHAT? he lost? i didn't even know he was fighting.

that's ****ing bull****. your professional boxing career lasts, let's say on average roughly 15 years. you'll have plenty of time after you retire to smoke weed.

it makes it sound like he smoked fight night.
                he aint that dumb.

considering that a boxer could do coke or junk three days before and drug test won't detect anything.
