Former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev will return to the ring in late August or early September, ********* has learned. No opponent, television or venue have been agreed upon yet. Rumors about a potential fight with rising cruiserweight champion David Haye in November are just hearsay at this point, according to Maskaev manager Fred Kesch. "No one has contact me regarding Haye nor have they contacted (Maskaev promoter) Dennis (Rappaport)," Kesch said. Maskaev is currently training back home in California in preparation for his return fight. Maskaev (34-6, 26 KO's) rocked current champ Samuel Peter in a fight in March in Cancun, Mexico before getting rocked and stopped himself in the sixth round. He's looking to bounce back with his upcoming fight and get back in the title picture, Kesch said. "We plan on keeping him busy and he wants to stay busy," Kesch said, alluding to the fifteen month lay-off the 39-year old Maskaev had prior to fighting Peter. "Oleg is still a top contender. We know we need to go back to square one. He's very disappointed and he wants to get his title back."
Maskaev to Return!

Shot old fighters like Oleg Maskaev and James Toney should retire.
I would hate to see poor old Oleg get badly beaten up by Haye.

Actually Lewis was 37. A better example would be Foreman at 45 winning a title and at 48 by most accounts beat Shannon Briggs. Maskaev is clearly done though and should retire.Comment

why dont they put him up with Haye. If bums like Rahman and Toney keep getting fights why shouldnt Maskaev keep fighting?Comment
