should've done that from the beginning...good for the fans...bad for the boxers...they're not gonna see as much momey as they used to
World Boxing League Is Set To Begin - Good or bad for boxing?

I kind of agree as it takes out an important aspect of stamina, a fighter would just aim to be well skilled, quick and powerful, but not so fit, which could be a bad thing for the sport, but also bad. I mean most sports have more variation than Boxing, Tennis has different court surfaces, cricket variations are large, Rugby rules often vary to name but a few. Boxing is missing that.
The easiest thing they can get wrong is the team thing, it could just work but has the potential to really make the whole thing lack meaning. I mean what determines the teams, nothing it sounds like. At least make it like soccer or tennis which is nationality based or something. I get the feeling making it work in America is first priority and the rest of the world won't be involved, or catch on as much. So another American made league called World, and it's a global sport meaning Americans will be even less exposed to the world boxing scene.
I could be speaking out of terms but these are hunches of the pro's and cons as I see them.Last edited by Kris Silver; 06-18-2008, 11:48 AM.Comment

Boxing isn't a team sport, The Contender tried it and they're off the air.
I respect your opinion, everyone if entitled to their own.Comment

i dont like it.
It would be great if they used like CONTENDER level fighters, and set up a reality type show using these teams, but eventually i would want these fighters to evolve into elite level boxing.
Id rather them just make an actual LEAGUE, keeping boxings current rules, but making 1 champ per division. thats how the sport SHOULD be runComment

Yer, Contenders coming back though I heard. I'm trying to think back to the series, I seem to remember it was better in series 1 and or 2, when a guy was the best, no matter his team, could keep winning, not lose, and win the competition. To an extent that was true later on but less so, at least one man gets called the best, rather than a whole team being supposedly #1, what does that tell us, but confuse even further the comparing of individual boxers.
I'm sorry but how many non American fighters were in that, things like this often just seem to have a habit of hindering exposing foreign fighters in this global sport. It's not like it's going to get like Soccer whereby there's several, or a majority of foreigners in a team, or there's genuine global coverage of a boxing league on all networks around the world. Just can't see it working out as good as an idea it is in some ways.Comment

I didn't follow The Contender too much so I only know Paul Smith was the only non-American boxer I believe in the last season.Yer, Contenders coming back though I heard. I agree, it won't capture a global audience unless they have fighters of different nationalities.
I just have a feeling that this league won't last too long, I don't think the idea will be embraced by diehard boxing fans or the casual fans.Comment

I hear you man...I like that the guy actually worries about the promoters hogging up the dates and fighters sometimes and all that bad stuff about boxing, but 5 rounds? holy **** i'll go to watching golf or some ****. I need 12 rounds. It's just too little.Comment

Word man! That's what I keep telling my friends about me not liking any other sport besides Boxing and UFC, because I can't stand that leagues like baseball or basketball BUY the good players, make a kickass team, and win a lot. The reason I like boxing is because it determines the drive of ONE man.Comment

5 rounds is definitely too little, I don't mind 4 or 6 round fights for up and coming fighters but 5 round fights for established fighters just doesn't sit right.
I totally agree, it's one of the things that makes boxing special.Word man!
