BREAKING NEWS: NONITO DONAIRE WILL FIGHT ON THE COTTO-MARGARITO TIFF

By Ed de la Vega, DDS
      PhilBoxing.com
      Tue, 17 Jun 2008

I just got off the phone with Nonito Donaire Sr., who informed me enthusiastically that his son, Nonito, Jr., the IBF/IBO World Flyweight champion has finally landed a fight.

Nonito Jr will be fighting on the undercard of the Cotto - Margarito Fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on July 26, 2008. His opponent is still undetermined as of this writing and an announcement will shortly be made as soon as he is known.

The fight is meant as a tune up for Donaire Jr after having been inactive since he TKO’d Luis Maldonado in Connecticut last December 2007. This fight will be the first fight for Nonito Donaire Jr., away from his former promoter Gary Shaw who released him from their contract recently.

After this fight, Nonito Jr has been tabbed by Lou DiBella to fight Christian Mijares for the WBC-WBA flyweight title. The fight date and location will be announced shortly after all the contracts are signed.

Donaire Sr., also informed this writer, that his other son, Glenn will definitely fight Ulisis Solis for his IBF light flyweight belt at Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico on July 12, 2008.

In the mean time his new protégé, a Mongolian fighter named Bachuu Otgonthuluum won his first US fight last Friday at Reno, Nevada. He beat a Latino named Omar Valencia. Valencia was downed in the 2nd, and then was TKO’d on the 3rd round. The fight was at 124 lbs weight limit.

Not bad, but it could be better...
That is a disgrace of a undercard. What happened to Juarez vs Barrios fight that should have happened on Mosley vs Judah undercard. They should have put a WW fight or a better prospect. Like a Peterson fight of Ortiz fight.

Hahahha yeah ok. Exposing Mijares and Montiel. He might beat Montel, but he won't beat Mijares or let alone expose Montiel.

Not a great undercard imo but its not really one of those main events that needs a solid undercard to make it worth the money.

It's not bad. The main event should be more than enough.

nonito to expose Mijares and Montiel? wat the **** are you smoking on pinoy? Donaire still hasnt even moved up to face the real challenge, Mijares and Montiel are both proven to be legit champs while Donaire beat a overrated one dimensional piece of **** in Darchinyan.. Mijares has two belts *****, Donaire still NEEDS to move the **** up and face them.
