The majority of MMA fans don't understand the technical side of either sport, but MMA is easier to enjoy without actually understanding it than boxing is.
Also, in MMA, the gloves are lighter so it produces more KO's.
Both sports need KO's to be marketable to a wide uneducated audience*, it's just unfortunate for boxing that MMA produces them more often.
*Not disrespecting any fan of either sport, but the casual fans who have no real knowledge want to see KO's, and MMA provides them.
Whats funny is, almost every single boxing website has a section dedicated to mma, yet u dont see mma sites dedicated parts of thier sites to boxing. I wonder why that is?
Try Sherdog or Ironlife.

NOT by actual martial artists who actually have respect for all styles of fighting. If you go to the fairtex website they will have links to LA Boxing and everlast. as well as other forms of martial arts
Payout = BJJ practioner
Fightworks/MMA Predicitions = BJJ and "Grappling" (as the IOC calls Submission Wrestling now)
Sherdog = Various styles

Fightlinker = BJJ/Judo

Scientific Wrestling = Grappling

No disprespect to MMA and UFC but if you stack up an MMA card with 5 great match-ups and you stack up a boxing card with 5 great match-ups who wear 4 ounce gloves. Guess which sport will be the most exciting.
The most exciting part about MMA is striking and even though most of them are garbage at exchanging punches, when they do, the crowd is in euphoria. Imagine boxers without gloves.

Well, what you find more exciting in a fight is entirely subjective. A lot of MMA fans aren't in it just for the knockouts, and enjoy the grappling aspect just as much, if not more. I enjoy good grappling orientated bouts just as much as stand-up wars, and more and more fans are learning to appreciate ground fighting.
If you listen to the crowds at UFC events a few years back, they would boo grappling orientated fights quite heavily, but now it's evident that the crowds have a much greater appreciation for it, and you hear cheers at reversals, escapes and submission attempts.

Hardcore audience can appreciate good grappling. Point taken but most people appreciate the striking way more. It is the same way in boxing, there are fans who appreciate the Cory Spinks and Winky Wrights of boxing, but they are a small # compared to the majority.
Another disadvantage of the grappling apsect in MMA is that a lot of times the audience can't see **** and don't know what's going on. It's a completely different story when two fighters are on their feet and strike.
