Assuming that he wins the vacated title this Saturday, I think you can count on Berto being tested. People are a lot more patient with protecting a prospect rather than a champion. If he wants to hold a welterweight title Berto will be expected to compete against dangerous opposition.

People are far too critical with boxers, most people who hate on Berto don't know **** about the sport. Berto is a naturally offensive and aggressive young fighter, he is a very exciting fighter that simply loves to ****.
He's got some defensive gaps but like a lot of aggressive fighters, his offense sometimes makes up for his defense. He's also got quick hands and can dish out some insane combos with a lot of power which is something not necessarily all common with hard punchers like Berto.
I think he can make a good name for himself at 147 but I believe that if he wins this title on Saturday he needs to step up in competition a notch more. Collazo would be a good name for his resume and a good title defense if he indeed wins this weekend, which I'm sure he will.Comment

Before he had 20 fights..Berto fought Rivera and Estrada..two guys that have fought Champions..one for a Title.
Most fighters with less than 20 fights aren't fighting guys on that level.
Trabant was a good fighter too..he just froze when he felt all that power..You can't blame Berto for that.
Step up his level of comp my ass..that's all the guy has been doing.
Then they say his defense is ****ty
SO WHAT?
Tony and Cotto have ****ty defense too..you can't miss either of them with the ******est of punches.
If Berto has poor defense..then he's right at home at 147 because he has PLENTY company.Comment

Exactly, Estrada is tough as nails and Rivera is not necessarily a bum, **** he even flashed KO'd a careless Berto and that fight went the distance. He's opposition hasn't been all that bad but it hasn't been impressive either, they are taking his time building him up but after he collects that green belt he will be forced to fight bigger names. Before he had 20 fights..Berto fought Rivera and Estrada..two guys that have fought Champions..one for a Title.

Cotto does not have as bad a defence as Berto and Tony
Estrada ,Rivera may have fought Champions but niether of them are ****ers and both of them had Berto hurt or down
Cotto has been hit by Torres and Pinto 2 of the biggest hitters around at that timeComment

You forgot Chop Chop..he is certainly not a big puncher and he had Cotto GONE..Just think if Chops had an extra 20lbs on him like Cotto did.
Cotto has no defense for right hands or uppercuts..NONE.
His defense is as ****ty as Tony's and Berto's.
Estrada had Shane hurt more than Cotto did..and Rivera can punch..
They BOTH can punch.Comment

Estrada does got some pop, he scored a hell of KO last time on ESPN WNF.Comment

He'll defend his vacated title a few times then he will be ready.
Andre is one of those guys you cannot let hit you..147 hasn't seen that kind of power in a while.Comment
