When Tyson fought Holmes, Larry hadn't had a fight in 21 months. Had he fought Foreman instead of Douglas, George would've had 12 fights over the same 21 month period. Gee, I know which fight I'd rather take. I didn't mention that Holmes was coming off back to back losses, because the second fight with Spinks was very controversial.
you say it as if Tyson was avoiding Holyfield....after Holyfield beat Buster....Tyson was signed to fight him! but he was convicted and went to jail

** You also didn't mention that Holmes thinks he won every fight he ever contested.

Nor did you mention that Holmes thinks he's the greatest fighter who ever lived. Nor did you mention that Holmes is a gym rat who spars most days and stalked Tyson for those 21 months. Holmes spent all his time in the gym developing a game plan for Tyson before signing.

Nor did you mention that it took Tyson to clean up the division that Larry split up because he wouldn't unify against the other champs, a half dozen prime dangerous heavies that were fighting each other and knocking each other out, during Larry's 7 yr run.

Tyson did fight them and Spinks and Larry too.

Frankly these two competing threads are just juvenile. I've always been of the opinion that to big up a fighter, show his accomplishments first. If all you got is dragging down the other guy, that's weak praise for your guy.

Tyson avoided fighting Evander by stalling and coming up with different excuses like training injury ect. Rumor has it that Evander has had the better of every heated sparring session that they had.

        • Watching Holyfield-Moorer last night, it said Holyfield tried to get a fight with Tyson and Lewis but neither wanted to fight him.......

What I thought was funny too, kinda off topic, but Holyfield said he wanted to retire before the '96 Olympics haha

Yeah IMO Evander should have retired a good while ago, especially when you look back at all of the wars that he was involved in with Qawi, Cooper, Bowe (trilogy) ect. He has a lot of wear and tear.

Tyson-Holyfield was scheduled for fall 1991.....Tyson was arrested on **** charges in July 1991, not sure about any injury reports

I can't see how Tyson-Holyfield was scheduled for 1991 when Douglas upset Tyson a few months before. Tyson's management were only concentrating on matching him against confidence buliders and getting him back into title contention.

it wasnt a few months before....Tyson fought Douglas 2.11.1990, then fought a couple confidence builder fights that same year....in early and mid 1991 he fought Razor Ruddock twice with holyfield planned in the fall

i even remember HBO reporting the fight as if it had already been signed

                  • easy answer....mike was a young and up and comming fighter. They were bringing him along even though he was the heavyweight champ...then he had the douglas setback, combined with the givens divorce and **** charges pending. He was suppose to fight holyfield and all of them but went to prison for 3 years. After his release he was rusty so he had a bunch of tune up fights but by the time he was ready for primetime he bite holyfields ear got his box. license suspended.

By the time that cleared up mike was still in a train wreck (personal life) and every time he was suppose to fight the mega fights something would happened and he would have to start all over again.

Read this entire article, it stated that Tyson and Holyfield were suppose to fight until Tyson pulled out claiming an injury to his ribs. This happened repeatedly. Tyson has his chances to fight Evander but wanted no part of him.
