By Jake Donovan - Gankor Promotions won a purse bid held by the WBC Friday afternoon for the right to promote the light heavyweight match between champion Chad Dawson and interim titlist Adrian Diaconu. The winning bid was $1,813,000, which surpassed the $1,301,000 offer submitted by Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw.
Based on the agreed-upon 60/40 split, Dawson stands to make more than $1,000,000 for the fight, while Diaconu clears over $750,000.
No date or venue has been set, though the fight is destined to take place in Diaconu's native Romania, where he won the interim title with a points win over Chris Henry this past April.
Under the terms of the purse bid, the bout must take place within the next 90 days. [details]
