  • How compassionate of Calzaghe to worry about Pavlik's career. What a great guy.

Bollocks aside, this encapsulates Calslappy's career beautifully. To be honest, I don't even think you can blame Frank Warren this time.

Christ, he gets criticised for fighting bums and now he's being criticised for not fighting one. The lad can't win.

      • I had a gut feeling he would not fight Pavlik , more interested in an easier fight with shot Roy , the Brits have a thing about waiting for a great fighter to burn out and then they want to fight them ,Cals made a career of it Eubanks Hopkins now Jones , funny thing all 3 would beat him when in their prime , but the names make the legacy eh , not to die hard boxing fans it dont we know the difference of being shot , no respect for Joe at all on this decision .

        • lol
funny how Joe acts as if he's sooo concerned for kelly's career...
The fact of the matter is Kelly is too big of a risk for the reward. RJJ will be a bigger fight and RJJ is obviously faded. This is the safer fight with the best money that's all it is. It would be great if RJJ can pull this off but i don't see that happening...
Come to think of it... this could back fire... if joe loses to RJJ everyone will say he loss to a faded RJJ that would def hurt his legacy

          • this is a wise move for joe. he will not risk his unbeaten record with kelly for he knows kelly packs a power punch. with roy jones, there is no opposition going in, but for kelly, joe will be in trouble.

his concern for kelly's career is his own way of saying: "i'm afraid with kelly".

            • ah, what garbage. Roy is about a fourth of what he once was. it really is a shame Calzaghe aint fightin Pavlik, Pavlik is the WAY harder opponent and it would have been a dandy of a fight, along with a interesting clash of styles.

but oh well, this is still a good fight. cant lie, it interests me. maybe Calzaghe can fight Pavlik after Jones, that would be nice.

he better hurry up though...I have no doubt that his prime was late in his career, but before long hes gonna start goin downhill. it happens to everyone

anyone who honestly thinks that Jones is a better fighter than Pavlik at this point in his career is out of their mind though. I mean, cmon guys...
and also anyone who really thinks a fight with Pavlik would be easier for Joe than the Lacy fight is losing it.

That view is sooo lame and subjective it's unreal, it doesn't prove anything but your bias and cynicism. Joe may not have got some of the so called mega names on his resume but he's never ducked anyone. He wanted Ottke for years whom wouldn't have any of it. Joe even begged to fight Kessler, a known dangerous top fighter, regarded as #2 in SMW and will reign, beat many of the big names of now.

He's openly said several times he gets motivated by big fights, dangerous fighters, with a challenge to win and not lose. Most agree Pavliks in experience and style is suited for Calzaghe to win in a similar fashion to Kessler. Roy however has the boxing skills, speed, combinations, ring intelligence to beat Joe. They're both late 30's aswell. This is a basic assessment of the facts you tools, quit making **** up.

                • Lame Brit!!! Obviously he's scared of Pavlik, bloody hell... hahaha... well at this stage in Joe "200 slaps" Calzaghe's career, Pavlik doesnt need him... Since there's going to be a lot of excuse coming from "200 slaps" after Pavlik beat the hell outta him... like, "he's old", "his body didnt cooperate", "the best guy won tonight", "thinking of hanging up prior to this bout, etc, etc."
Joe, prefers fighting boxers from nursing homes... hahaha...
Big fat joke! Go screw your own @$$... hahaha...

Joe Calzaghe is ducking Kelly Pavlik? Pavlik?! ****s sake. If you got 160 pounds of lard and put it into a machine to make a fighter absolutely tailor-made for Joe Calzaghe it would pop our Moby. Look I love Pavlik to bits - bit simple of course, but an absolute warrior and never knows when he's beaten - but Calzaghe is an absolute nightmare for him. It'd make the Lacy fight look competitive, even taking into account Calzaghe's ageing. This is really very good news for Pavlik.

The Jones fight is about one thing and one thing only - money. They'll make millions more fighting than he'd make from Pavlik. That's the reality of boxing these days, sadly, and not being able to compete with the big boys financially is the main reason why Calzaghe has been in Pavlik's shoes in the past and turned down by the bigger names. Quite ironic really.

So seriously folks, get a grip here. Calzaghe gets his payday, Jones gets his one last day out in the sun (well, rain assuming this is going to be held in Cardiff) and Pavlik doesn't get humiliated and can reign supreme for a few more years in a pretty mediocre division these days. Everyone's a winner.
