many people overlook the fact he was 21 when he won the title and he was beating good to great fighters at that age until he died at the young age of 23 i think...he could have fought on and had 100+ wins like duran and chavez, he certainly had the skills too but he died in an accident, he had 44 wins in just the age of 23

He would've KO'd all of them, too bad Pacquiao wasnt on around that time or else they would of been a few phillipino bums trying to win a title but get beaten up.

He's definitely on everyone's Top 3 Mexican fighters list. He's #1 in my book.

Sanches was definitely a great one. It's a shame what happened.

El Finito is also underrated but thats because of his weight division

                    Chava, Finito, and then Chavez.

Oh Sal wasn't underrrated. He wa the truth. Sal was a tall lanky fighter for his division. His resume even now is phenomenal. He was one ,of the most precise punchers, and one of the best counter punchers who ever lived. Roy Jones loved the man. I was a danny lopez fan because my name is danny, and i'm black with shinno**** in my veins. So i had the feathers, and wore them during the fight, and i live in NJ lol. I became a fan of Sanchez after he beat lopez down, and was very sad when he died. He had an afro, lol and skills beyond his years. What if he and chavez got it on. WOW, i would've picked sanchez. Ricardo lopez, Juan Marquez, Canto, Olivares, Chavez..etc the list goes on of Mexican greats. But the best Mexican fighters i like (no order)are ricardo lopez, sal sanchez, and j.m.m. These 3 are the epitome of skills and heart.
