Sechew Powell v. Deandre Latimore

So the year of the underdog is 2008.

Before the fight began last night it was pretty obvious that Powell and team had selected latimore as a showcase kind of fight and it didnt work out that way.

But teddy atlas made a good point and i want to get other poster's opinions on this.

Do you think Powell was really hurt or "playing possum"? i would have to say he was trying to trick latimore and lure him in so he could counter him more easily.

He didnt appear at all hurt; as soon as the ref called it off he showed he was fine, no sign of being hurt (no wobbling, nothing).

Take nothing away from Latimore that was still a good back and forth fight.

When I saw it live, after Teddy said that he was playing possum, I started yelling at the TV. Not at Powell or the ref, but at Teddy for being so naive. It was CLEAR to me that Sechew was hurt. He was hurt BEFORE Teddy made the comment with a left hand that made him back up to the ropes.

It was a good stoppage and Sechew was hurt in that corner when the ref stepped in. He got hit cleanly and it looked like he was leaning forward getting ready to fall on his face. Maybe he should've thrown a few punches back to keep the ref from stopping it, if he wasn't hurt that is.

Everytime he flopped on the ropes he was hurt. He's just a semi good hider.

He was hurt and losing badly, had the fight conitnued he would have surely lost. I dont see a problem with the stoppage.

He was hurt. And if he wasnt and playing possum then he is just a jackass for being so ******. The ref can only go by what he sees. Powell was getting hit clean and not even defending himself. Great stoppage!

i think it was a combination of both. if you noticed right when the ref called it off he instantaenously started pleading with him, which to me shows he was aware of what was going on

either way hes a dumbass

It's tough to say. I think he was definitely trying to counter him, but I'm sure those shots he took were effecting him. He was probably losing the fight anyway though. I was surprised. Latimore fought a good fight. I give him credit.

I agree if Powell was hurt, which i think he was, then it was a good stoppage. If he was playing possum then he is an idiot. He was clearly winning the fight when he came forward.

if he was plaing possum he wasnt throwing counter punches lol.. he was clearly hurt.. that left hand kept coming over the top.. he was starting to get his ass kicked.. i thought the ref stopped it too early but it was going that route anyway.. i think the heat wave mightve drained him and quillin they looked sluggish and slow
