Some people still act like he is the Jones of old.

He has only tested this new Winky Wright-esque style against a Felix Trinidad who is way too big to be effective anymore. I don't know how people are placing him on the map of the elites already. He needs to beat someone who is good and proven at the weight they fight at.

I just didn't think Trinidad had a shot in hell from the moment that fight was signed. A welterweight powerpuncher fighting a guy who reigned at LHW for years and won a HW title? Uhhh, I'll take Jones for 1000 Alex!

No, jones isnt the same fighter anymore, hes not prime, derrrr... hes not as good as he used to be, i say he still gives anyone problems at LHW, but not like he used too... he used that style against hanshaw as well... and trinidad called roy out... and roy took the money bait... why not... he needed more tune ups anyways.. might as well get paid while you get yourself back together ehh?

(St. Petersburg, FL) Historyis in the making as the boxing scene is buzzing about the recent retirement of Floyd Mayweather and its effect on the Oscar De La Hoya. As De La Hoya eagerly searches for a worthy opponent, he will find one in former Middleweight champion, Ronald "Winky" Wright, of whom he's been avoiding for years. Upon hearing the news, Wright exclaims, "It's destiny… Floyd retired, nobody cares to fight Oscar, but here I am. He can't run from me any more."

De La Hoya has yet to concede to Wright's call; however, Wright plans to aggressively pursue De La Hoya. "I'm not giving up…" Wright says, "If he thinks I'm going to fall back and let it go – he's wrong. He must have forgotten who I am. I'm the guy who's fought around the world to prove I'm the best pound for pound fighter. And after I pound Oscar, the world will see what I've been telling them my whole career: that I am the greatest."

While Wright's comments may raise eyebrows due to his hiatus from the ring due to his recovery period and alleged outstanding financial requests, he assures that this fight can be a reality. He states, "See, you can't get caught up in the hype. I can and will do everything in my power to make this fight happen. I've been dying to get at Oscar for years, but he's just been too scared. He, along with the rest of the world, may think the fight won't happen because I've been out of the ring or want too much money, but that's not true."

Wright continues to clear up the confusion and speculation, adding why Oscar needs to step up to the plate. "What the media won't tell you is that I've always had to get the short end of the stick in order to make fights happen." He says. "I took a pay cut, so these fights could happen. So now that I'm asking for what I'm worth I supposedly want 'too much money'? Everyone knows a Wright – De La Hoya fight is a big ticket, so give me my justice. I've worked for it and I deserve it. He knows what this fight can do for him too. He knows he can really get paid, so why keep running? It's about time that the best get back to fighting the best in boxing. No more warm up fights. Just get in the ring with me and go for twelve rounds. Just do it."

No official discussions have been made, but Wright's camp is ready, willing and able. Damian Ramirez, Wright's advisor agrees with Wright. He says, "It's about time. This needs to happen. Not just for Winky, but for boxing. Everyone's hungry for a fight like this."

Right, I agree with everything you say, but I do think he needs to prove he is effective with that style against a top guy before we can say that he will give problems to anyone at LHW.

I agree that you can not fight a good fighter and not have it being ducking, as long as you are doing something equally or more challenging.

Example: Mayweather didn't fight Casamayor and Freitas at 130, but he did move up to 135 to fight Castillo. Castillo ended up being better than both Casamayor and Freitas when all those round robin fights were done (if you add Corrales into that mix).

Trinidad may or may not have been more dangerous than Ouma, and Castillo may or may not have been more dangerous than Casamayor and Freitas, but either way, I think it is a hard argument to make that either fighter took a lesser chanllenge to duck the others mentioned.

But, then again, I wasn't a fan when all that **** happened, so... I may or may not be correct. I wasn't there for the situation and atmosphere of such things.

You can't really fault Winky Wright for taking the rematch with Mosley and fighting Tito Trinidad. Those were very winnable, huge paydays and thats what had been unattainable for years.

Fighting Kassim Ouma, who was hungry and had comparably meager earning potential, would be a backwards step from what Wright's objective was.

In my opinion Ouma was much more dangerous than Mosley and Trinidad were at the time. Ouma was a very serious fighter before his out of the ring habits became the death of him.

Thats the point I was trying to make to Ferocity... He's saying that Winky ducked Ouma...Since I didnt follow Ouma's career until after the Taylor fight...So my knowledge on Ouma before the Taylor fight is VERY limited. I can only go by what you guys tell me (just being honest)

Maybe he didnt want to his career to Ouma, but in MY HONEST OPINON, I seriously doubt that he ducked Ouma...The scenrio was a low reward\ high risk. In all fainess I agree with you guys.

u have no idea... the entire house is getting all the hard wood floors refinished before i even move in... the fam room doesnt have hard wood, im having them install real hard wood, theres also a small bathroom in the fam room... there extending the wall out, and replacing the linoleum with granite flooring new toilet and sink, before i move in! oh shiiiiiiiiit

fair enough...... hes 39... im not sure how much better he can get before getting worse again... soon it will all be over which is why i try to go to all his fights while there still around
