Joe Calzaghe retires from boxing
Joe Calzaghe has often given off signs of his retirement in the past; post Manfredo "I want two to three more fights" , post Kessler "I'm looking for two big name fights" and post Hopkins "One more fight and I'll retire" but now it seems like he is ready to call it a day in the sport after he sensationally revealed he has no plans on fighting again as he sat down with Frank to talk about the future.
"I have been boxing for 25 years suffering multiple hand injuries and other major set backs." he continued . . . "It was never about the money besides the early years, it was all about cementing my legacy, wanting to be the best. I feel I've finally achieved that and I'm now on top of the mountain, I know this will come as a disappointment to Frank and my fans but I have sat down with my family to talk about this and I've decided it will be with in my best interest if I retire at the top."
"I have two beautiful children, what can money buy? I feel I owe it to my family and my own health that I should retire now."
Frank Warren is said to be very annoyed with Joe's decision as a big pay day is looming but he claimed he knew about Joe's decision a while ago, "Joe has always been an honest bloke and when he says something, he means it. A week or two back he told me how hard he found it to get motivated which is always a sad thing to see in boxing."
