True, he did not follow the path that us fans wanted him to towards the end of his career, but we cannot forget the brilliance and mastery he gave us through out the majority of it. He was an vital player in the sport and ended up being the face of this generation in boxing. As we read, heard and saw, his love for boxing seemed to dwindle more and more as he felt there were no more challenges for him. So, maybe it was for the better that he did not face Cotto or any other welterweight we wanted him to face. Why would we want Floyd to face his biggest challenge if his heart and mind wasn't in it? I mean, boxing is his job and I'm sure some of us know how unsatisfying it can be doing something you don't feel like doing even though you are getting paid for it.
So Floyd didn't fight the best fighters towards the end of his career. But he sure as hell did for most of it and for that, I will always remember and thank god I was able to witness his brilliance.
