Well he's better than the rest of the fighters Chavez beat. In all honesty his build up and padding of his Chavez jr. record maybe tedious and seem protected but it's really just giving Chavez the experience to fight a range of styles. Fighters with "padded" records that have alot of mediocre and a few high end opponents stuck in the middle and at the very end usually do VERY well. Look at Chavez sr, Joe Calzaghe, Hopkins etc..

The Wealth of styles they must have fought prepares them well for the higher end opposition that they must face later on in their career. Althought this does mean you have to start boxing professionaly at a young age.

The wealth of styles has allowed a fighter like Bernard who wasn't all that great against RJJ and Supermercado developed into a master of the sport and i believe the vast level of beatable opposition helped him achieve that.
