Carlos Quintana Wants Paul Williams Trilogy, Vows To Return

Exactly, williams has an off night, he loses a decision. Quintana has an off night, and he loses by 2 brutal ko's. If his manager throws back to the wolves, it will be career suicide. We as fans know he deserves a third fight, but the invisible rule on boxing is, work your way back. I think you have to wait a couple of months to fight anyway when you are ko'd correct?Comment

I'm no Williams fan cuz I don't like him fighting at that weight in the first place. If I had to compare a williams-quintana 3rd fight to williams fighting the winner of cotto-marg or even fighting berto for the currently vacant wbc belt, I would rather see the ladder 2. but if he could still do all 3, than I'm fine with the trilogy. There's nothing redundant about it -- it seems more like people that like Paul Williams just don't want to see the chance of him losing to Quintana again.
Paul Williams can come in undertrained and have an off night but Quintana can't? Lucky punches never happen?
Get real.
and about your "lucky punches" comment: it wasn't a flash ko. he knocked down quintana with a combination of punches and when quintana got up, williams finished him off. I don't call that lucky.Last edited by -Swizzy-; 06-09-2008, 02:46 PM.Comment

After suffering a knockout, you want to take some time off before getting back in the gym. Then you'd need to train and get your mind right before testing yourself in the gym and regaining your confidence.
Going back into a fight following a knockout loss too soon is a recipe for disaster.Comment

Honestly, IMO being outboxed for 12 rounds is more impressive to me (if that makes any sense). It showes that williams had 12 rounds to get his **** together and couldn't. There are too many X factors in a first round KOs... not warmed up properly, cought with a good punch, etc...Had Carlos made it out of that round, who knows what would have happened (pavlik vs taylor), although i highly doubt he would have floored williams.First of all he had an immediate rematch clause, so that's a start. Second of all he was outboxed not outclassed, he wasn't hurt or dropped once. Third he wasn't knocked out viciously in one round and left before they even announced the winner. So stick with that for now.
Which was more impressive to u Lacy VS Joe or some first round KO?
Not taking anything away from Paul, that was a spectacular KO, but i think carlos deserves a remach for sure.Comment

I'd like to see a third fight. Who doesn't like a good trilogy? Maybe the third fight would be somewhere between the first to and we'd see some fireworks? It doesn't have to happen right away, but it should be made at some point.
I don't think there is any concrete reason to believe this fight would go the same way the last fight went. Quintana is better than what he showed Saturday.Comment

Quintana doesn't deserve ****.
If Hatton doesn't deserve a rematch with Floyd..then how the **** does Carlos deserve one??
If Joe KO'd Lacy in one round that would have been far more impressive...any damn fool can see that.Comment

Getting stomped in the first round does not grant Quintana a 3rd fight.I'd like to see a third fight. Who doesn't like a good trilogy? Had it been close..sure..but not a one round blowout.Comment

^ I think it depends on the conditions. If fighter A beats fighter B with his A game and fighter B only brought his C game in a first encounter, the heat is on fighter B to erase all doubt and prove his explanation for the loss in a follow up bout if they have one. Williams admitted to not even sparring any southpaws for his first fight with Carlos on top of overlooking him and being out of shape. Paul has a return bout, stops his opponent in 1, proving his explanation for the first fight true. What else do you guys want? It's one thing to win a rematch in the same fashion you lost, but a win in tidal wave fashion, by whom many were considering a feather fisted fighter?Honestly, IMO being outboxed for 12 rounds is more impressive to me (if that makes any sense). And didn't someone post here that Quintana stated he was more prepared for Williams this time around with his comments some time after the fight?
I'm not buying the fluke win argument on Williams' part, it looks the other way around to me. Paul had freaking cement in his shoes when it came to his agility in the first fight. It clearly looked like something was wrong with him to me. I even commented that I thought it looked like he couldn't make welter anymore. I can't be the only one who thought so. The Punisher in that first fight looked like a different guy compared to the one who stopped Mitchell in 4 and outpointed Marg in a fight I felt any other welter would have folded under that kind of pressure.
A bit off topic:
Another thing I have to knock are people in here tearing down Margarito for losing to Paul. In no way was that fight easy, and Williams' admitted to being stunned. You all know judges love damage. A 9-3/8-4 bout looks different when just about everything your opponent throws has effect by your reaction to his shots. That early body work Marg put in paid dividends by the championship rounds. Many of you who saw the fight and big up Paul act like that did not take place. It's the sole reason he was able to time Williams so well by the end and stun him. It hampered his agility.Comment
