Cotto vs Margarito Hbo Countdown; Will it make a difference in PPv sales?

This is the harcore fans dream fight, not so much for Joe Blow Iowa fan. So, how can Hbo really hype this fight up to appeal to the mainstream?

Cotto is becoming more popular ans his name is being spread out now, while Margarito is still a ?......... Obviously, a win over Cotto puts Margarito on the map, but Hbo will have to pull soem tricks out the hat to make this a very successful PPV..

Puerto Ricans and Mexicans will get it, but will the rest of the populace do so as well???

I would love to see one but if you are a true boxing fan you will order this fight regardless. The countdown will get the casual fan who may see it after watching entourage or something. A boxing fan, no matter what ethnicity, will order this fight.

It's going to do something like 350,000-400,000 buys max. Margarito just doesn't bring any fans who don't already buy PPVs to the table. To a certain extent Cotto doesn't either. Look at Top Rank's most successful PPVs in recent years and that's probably the ceiling for this fight.

The Countdown will help the fight, most casual fans have already seen Cotto on PPV before and probably know a lil' bit about him, on the other hand this is going to be good exposure for Tony and will make the fight more appealing for the casuals, but let's be honest here, this fight is really tailor made for the hardcore boxing fans, period.

yes it is, thats why im kinda sad that these guys will not get the shine they deserve.

I think i was like one of the 20 guys that bought Margarito vs Gomez PPV........MArgarito has to shine or eklse its good bye. He blew his chance to make a staement against Williams, this fight is his last chance......

The countdown show is going to **** it into the audience's head that this fight is for welterweight supremacy and has the potential to be fight of the year. By the end of the countdown special, anyone who watched it will know that this is a very important fight that could be action-packed. Whether that translates into huge PPV sales is another question.

I still believe that Margarito is very overrated and he doesn't really have many fans. Cotto is selling the PPVs. The countdown show is just the formality to remind the usual PPV buyers that Cotto is having a big fight and that they should be ready to buy it. It probably helps the promotion, but I doubt it moves the numbers more than maybe 25,000-50,000 buys.

I agree. That is a good call. I say this fight does 295-320K.

                    How will HBo sell Margarito????

                    as the most avoided fighter?

                    or

the man on the cusp of greatness??

This is a problem.......cause no one really believes any of those 2 choices.
