    boxing would really tank if.......

    picture this mayweather announced his retirement yesterday,
    lets say he really does for good,
    cotto will be fighting margarito,
    lets say cotto wins then fights dlh in december and dlh wins and retire,

    you have pbf (retired)
    cotto (with a loss would lose somewhat ratings)
    dlh (will retire this year)
    margarito (will have loss #6)

    who would be the next ppv attraction ?
    the WW has been great but I don't like the way this is looking;
    the lighter division would be ok to watch,
    but the catch right now is the welterweight division

    I have a lot of faith on boxing's ability to regenerate itself. There has never been a fighter who boxing couldn't survive without. Proof of that is that boxing is still pretty big today, and all the fighters from the past that boxing supposedly couldn't live without are either retired or dead.

      The guy in my sig (animated gif) could become a pretty big star.

      A lot of up and comers that could make it big. Gamboa for example, Khan, etc.

        The greatest boxer in history could be right around the corner. New talents gets into boxing every day. It is a sport that gives people with limited skills a chance to make honest money. That's why it will always survive and why MMA is not much of a long term threat .

              I am crying for ****'s sake. America will find herself another hero. As if Floyd was one anyway.

                all sports need their superstars... golf = tiger, soccer = beckham, nba = kobe, etc...

                without them the sport's ratings suffer. floyd's retirement is a blow to boxing.
