The Real Reason Boxing is In "Decline"

The real reason Boxing is in decline in AMERICA is because we don't have a unified Heavyweight Champion. Out Marquee division is lacking in a dominating character. Everytime Boxing has a Unified Heavyweight Champion it goes back on the rise or atleast a competitive Heavyweight scene.

It start back with fighters like Jack Johnson, Dempsey, Ali, Louis, Tyson, Evander, Lewis look at them the era's seem to be defined by the Heavyweight Champions with era's not having a dominating Heavyweight champion being left relatively obscure unless there are some truely special fighters in the classes below.

The Mess of titles doesn't really help, when the casual person can name a heavyweight champion of the world THEN boxing will be back on track. We also need an Exciting heavyweight, Wlad seems the closest were getting to one but his last outing wasn't the best, he's normally exciting but in the first Unification match for a long time it doesn't give me much hope. Now I'm hoping that Haye will dominate because
    1. He's young, Good looking
    2. Exciting
    3. Confident
    4. In shape

Most of the Heavyweight's are terribley out of shape because there has been no pressure to get into shape. The man sitting atop the pile at the moment (Wlad) is vunerable. When Ali, Louis, Lewis, Tyson were on top they were all dominating and to compete and earn money you had to be in the best physical condition.

Being Honest I love all the weight classes but mainstream America is only interested in the top fighters ... the exciting ones. It won't be fighters like Mayweather that will put boxing back in it's place. it will be fighters Like Pac-man, Pavlik and Cotto that will with a Dominating heavyweight leading the way. Mayweather as good as he is, isn't flashy in the ring, his defense is great but it doesn't catch the eye of the public. Roy Jones style and showboating caught the eye of the public, Tysons explosiveness and arrogance (during the latter half of his career) got him views.

    Boxing will come back.

Haye is an overhyped limey hypejob who will be exposed by the p4p number one in the world, the greatest heavyweight champion of all time Wladimir Klitschko who not only is the hardest hitting heavyweight in the history of the universe, he is also the most skilled fighter in the world and his semen is like a sweet perfume.

honestly, its all about "excitement". thats what people pay for. they pay to watch fighters fight.

and they dont have to be Gatti/Ward type fights, but just good ol ****ing boxing.

and thats stopped. fighters became more business men than boxers and stopped taking risks. their ego's didnt allow them to take the fights where they may not look good or they possibily could lose. that is what is killing boxingfights like Mayweather/DLH are what is killing boxing. All hype with no delivery.

Huge PPV numbers for a fight doesn't mean that its saving boxing. 2.5 million buys doesnt equate to long term customers. Especially when the product they bought didn't satisfy them.

Good post. Like it or not, it is natural for fans in any given country to require their own champs in order to get behind a sport. A successful American heavyweight would be great for the sport over there I'm sure. I also understand why you hope that Haye is successful, since even if he's British he does possess a lot of charisma and has a pleasing style. If he does well he may reinvigorate the HW scene for a while, but I doubt it will improve the standing of boxing in the US, Haye will just be compared unfavourably to the US HW greats of the past, exactly the way Wlad Klitschko is compared to them now.

Right now America (the home of boxing, the only place you get noticed, the only country that produces credible fighters and all that BS) should be begging Haye to come over and inject some excitement into terminally dull HW scene.

See i think because his first language is English it will improve his stand, he's exciting and confident and that what people like.

Just like Lennox who could play it safe but he often when toe to toe like against Grant and Bruno. I really believe once there is a heavyweight champion that an average person can name then it will mean Boxing is back on the rise.

Why not talk about the fights tonight instead of every day the same bs as to why boxing sucks??

Boxing is doing great, if Floyd retires oh well people wanted to boycott his ppv against Oscar anyways.

              Tonight we have

              Lopez vs De leon
              Pavlik vs Locket
              Williams vs Quintana
              Mora vs Forrest

And all we can talk about is why boxing isn't leading off sportscenter or on the cover of SI, boxing has been this way for a very long time in the US. I don't know why people act as if its something new.

read the post.... Boxing isn't as mainstream as it was. While it is still popular and host alot of great fights most of them aren't of any interest to the average fan.

It's the truth whilst i wish everyone would witness Pac-man or pavlik fight they aren't bothered. Were just discussing the way in which boxing can become mainstream again.
