Even though I HIGHLY doubt it; lets say for sake of arguement floyd retires...

Teddy Atlas on Friday Night Fights touched on the thought if its a hoax he could be holding out on a bigger payday but i quickly dismissed that because who is a bigger payday in boxing tody than Oscar De La Hoya? Unless he plans to hold out a month or so that everyone will BELIEVE he's retired but announce he will finish his career with the de la hoya rematch to gain even MORE money and ppv buys with everyone (casual fans mostly) believing it will be the last time he will fight.

    Its a possibility...

if he really calls it quits at a time like this (especially only being 30/31 years old and in his prime) and with the margarito/cotto fight coming up it would be seriously; a ***** move.

He's looking at possibly some of the toughest opponents of his career (ie. the winner of margarito or cotto) and the rematch with oscar who almost (he's come the closest out of all floyd's opponents in pro history) gave him his first loss...

to walk out now would be unjustified in my opinion since the welterweight division is RIGHT on the brink from sorting itself out.

However i think its just a ploy to get more money/PPV buys; etc.

it is POSSIBLE that he's serious, i doubt it but it cant be 100% overlooked.

    What is your opinion?

He's been talking about retiring for a long time now.. i think he really is feed up with the sport and no longer has love or passion for it.
He's been talking bout calling it quits since Baldomir.. He just been dragging a long getting paydays.. I think he knows he has all the money he can ever want now and may possibly quit for real..

However, I think that later on he comes back because he wont be able to live with the fact that people think he left boxing because he was scared of Miguel Cotto.

Maybe he wanted to make sure he remained undefeated for a fight with Cotto. Maybe he got it in his head that if Oscar kept the fight close, which he likely can, he (Mayweather) would lose a decision. (based on the first fight, this isn't too far fetched). And then the fight with Cotto loses a lot of it's luster. Maybe if Cotto beats Margarito, he'll bounce back out of retirement, to take on Cotto.

Then again, maybe he's just retired. I don't give a **** if he ever comes back. But if he does, i'd say fight Cotto/Marg winner, flip the haters the bird, and hang it up for good.

No he ain't retireing people should stop taking this **** serious. It was even in the New York post Anyone who isn't dumb knows that he will wait and see what Arum has to offer. So people wait after the Margaritto vs Cotto fight. Obvious that Arum will do whatever he can to get Mayweather to fight the winner. So don't buy into this ****, cuz in my opinion Mayweather jus ***ing with Arum. Thats all it is.

I agree. But in the event that Cotto loses to Margarito, slim to no chance he comes back to fight Marg.
